How to properly care for your leather bag (and what you should absolutely not do)
Share
Hey! If you've bought a leather bag, you naturally want it to stay beautiful for a long time. Here are my honest, practical tips:
First things first: Less is more
Many people over-care for their bags. Leather is a natural material β it doesn't need daily attention. Once a month is perfectly sufficient.
What you need:
- A soft, dry cloth
- Leather care product (but please use a good one!)
- patience
Here's how:
1. Remove dust: Simply wipe with a dry cloth. Sounds trivial, but that's half the battle.
2. Care: Apply a small amount of leather conditioner to a cloth and gently massage it in. Not too much! The leather shouldn't shine like a disco ball.
3. Let it soak in: Leave the bag overnight. Give it a quick polish the next day.
What you should NOT do:
β Do not use home remedies such as olive oil or shoe polish β these will only damage the leather.
β Do not place in direct sunlight
β Do not leave outside in the rain (obviously, right?)
β Do not wash in the washing machine (yes, some people actually ask this)
My insider tip:
If your bag gets wet: Stuff it with newspaper and let it dry slowly. Do not place it on a radiator!
That's it. No rocket science, just a little love and attention. Your bag will thank you! πΌ
